Jeweller Letterhead – Mixed Victorian Type and Croydon Address

This Croydon invoice header for Waghorn Bros., watchmakers, jewelers, goldsmiths and silversmiths, mixes several Victorian typefaces in one block. A small blackletter Dr. to opens the top line before wide capitals, then a flowing italic script lists the trades, with small caps for the King’s Parade address and spaced capitals for the probate valuers line. Thin rules and a pair of tiny fleuron dividers break up the layout, and the whole piece is cut out on a transparent background. Prop makers dressing a period jeweler’s shop counter can drop it onto aged paper as a ready bill.
